WHAT IS MIXED REALITY(MR)?
Mixed reality encompasses a spectrum of visual displays spanning from the real environment to the virtual environment. Within this spectrum is augmented reality (AR) and augmented virtuality (AV). AR lies closer to the real environment, and allows digital models and information to be overlaid and mixed into users’ perception of the real world.
In contrast, AV is closer to the virtual environment, and entails systems that are mostly digitally generated, but have some real world imagery overlaid.
AR uses wearable head mounted mobile devices, such as HoloLens, and enables users to view and edit 3D visualisations and digital information overlaid onto the real world environment. HoloLens technology allows all physical and digital information to be displayed through the goggles.
On this basis, Tantek address shortcomings of current BIM practices which tend to separate virtual information from physical real world information.
